Adopt-A-Cache

Inevitably in time after placing a cache a persons health, time or interests may cause them to be unable to maintain a cache properly.  Don't let a good cache fade away!  Contact us at MoGEO to offer your cache up for adoption by someone else in your area to continue its upkeep and care which you have long provided.

Blogging on MOCache

Blogging is writing an online diary to share with the world your thoughts and adventures.  MOCache now offers a free blogging account to anyone interested.  It's not another logbook, it's kind of like a mini homepage that you share with other members.  The posts from the last day of blogs is always displayed on the front page together, but readers can click on your name and view all your blog posts.  They can even comment on what you write!

To get your blogging account, you'll need to use the contact form and send us your desired username, and display name.  Because some users have spaces, punctuation or other charactors in their name that aren't appropriate for a username, the display name can accomodate them.  For many however the display name will be the same as their username, but please specify this.

Once your account is created, I'll email you the information and a temporary password which you can change once you log in.  It's quick and easy, you'll be blogging in no time!

What is GeoCaching?

Geocaching (pronounced Jee-oh-cash-ing)

is a high tech version of hide-and-seek. It's hiking - with a goal. Geocachers from all over the world place trinket boxes (caches)  in the wilderness or urban areas hidden from view of the main public.

They then use their Global Positioning Satellite Receiver (GPS or GPSR) to record the precise latitude and longitude. "X" marks the spot! This information is posted on the website www.geocaching.com.
These "caches" usually contain trinkets for trade. When a cacher finds a box, they can take something out of it, but they need to leave something in trade. There's also a log book to sign, and they are invited to log their find on the website for each cache.

Geocaching Groups in Missouri

Geocachers in the States Of Missouri and Kansas have no doubt noticed an explosion of both great cachers and caches within the last several months. It wasn't that long ago a search of the nearest caches turned up a list of 20 or 30 caches within 100 miles. Now that numbers is more like 1000 or so.

With all this growth has come the desire to form local geocaching groups. Missouri now has four very active groups at last count. The members of all these groups have advanced Geocaching in their areas by aggressively working with the land managers and governmental agencies.

Missouri's largest and longest running Geocaching group is The St. Louis Area Geocachers Association or SLAGA. They generally call  St. Louis and the surrounding 150 miles "home".  They maintain a very informative and attractive  website,  host a Geocaching discussion forum on their site as well as operate an active Geocaching newsgroup that is open to the Geocaching Public no matter where you call home. Send mail to Mike Griffin  at Bear@MoGeo.com   with questions or comments about SLAGA.

--- The Kansas City Geocachers have a very active group made up of members from both Missouri and Kansas. They can be found on the Mogeo Discussion forum. [CLICK HERE]  to send mail to Jim Shilt  at with questions or comments about the KC Geocachers.

--- Down in Southwestern Missouri we have the Ozark Mountain Geocachers. Their group is made  of  members from both Arkansas and  Missouri. They operate a Yahoo newsgroup and website. Send mail to Jeepers2 at Nick@MoGeo.com with questions or comments about the Ozark Mtn Geocachers

---Missouri's Newest Geocaching group is in Southeast Missouri and is based out of Cape Giardeau and is called the Southeast Missouri Geocachers. Stop by for a visit.
